What size speaker fits the Mk2 Ibiza/Cordoba?

For the fronts you need to get yourself some component speakers. On most models there is a tweeter under a grille in the dash and a 17cm mid-bass woofer in the door. These are the euro fitment style woofers and most modern 6.5" component sets will be of this type. To get at the door speaker open the door fully and look at the bottom front corner of the door. Here you will see a small screw. Remove this and then the grille will pull off. The dash tweeters are hidden under the grilles at each end of the dash. All you need to do is ( carefully ) with a small screwdriver prise this grille upwards and there is the tweeter. There is so much room under the tweeter grilles that most component crossovers can be hidden in the dash here allowing you to use the standard wiring to the doors.

The rear speakers are 6x4" speakers. In the Cordoba the grille, with the speaker attached is prised up from the top of the parcel shelf, whereas the Ibiza has them mounted underneath the parcel shelf supports accessed from the boot.

What size speaker fits the Mk3 Ibiza/Cordoba?

Well these are about the same as the Mk2 but with an added complication. The whole door card has to be removed to get to the speakers and then the mid-woofer is riveted to the metal work of the door. DO NOT try to remove just the grille on the door card as this will damage the trim and require an expensive trip to your local dealer. Do yourself a favour as well and get yourself the Autoleads speaker adapters for these, available from most car audio stores, as this will make mounting the new components much easier.

The tweeter in the Mk3 is also hidden behind the mirror panel, rather than in the dash, but this panel is fairly simple to remove with the door cards off. The rears are the same as in the previous model.

What size speaker fits the Leon?
The speakers in the Leon are pretty good as standard but if you are looking for just that little bit more then again the Leon takes 17cm mid-woofer and a 1" tweeter. Again the whole door panel has to be removed, taking care not to pull any cables in doing so, but the door panels do come off reasonably easily. The rear speakers in the Leon are in the rear doors and so the door cards would again need removing to gain access to them.

You will need adapters to fit the speakers but you can buy the Golf Mk4 Autoleads adapters which work fine.
