As just a quick update for the first impresions
I thought I'd best tell you what I think of the Genesis A16
Components now that I have them installed in the Leon. Well
I don't actually know where to start really. One thing I remember
in one of my many e-mails to Gordon Taylor, the main man at
Genesis, was his description of the sound. "Sweet"
was one of the words he used, and I can tell you he's not wrong
there... No sir if you're after some very impressive sounding
speakers then these could be the ones for you. The speakers
are well at home with all music but they really shine when playing
something classical ( stop sniggering at the back... ) or
something with a full range of sound. The tweeter is never harsh
and very well matched to the mid-range. And I've even been hearing
bits of tracks that I never noticed before.
After Gordon read my first impressions he told me that the
problem of mounting the crossovers is something they will
be looking into for the next batch, probably having screw
holes pre-drilled in the "feet" of the boxes. Also
he commented that the reason for the 0db and +3db settings
on the tweeter connection is that the 0db is meant for use
in dash or top of door locations and the +3db is for kickwell
mounting of the tweeters. So this is purely to keep the levels
between mid and tweeter the same rather than reduce the volume
if the listener finds them too upfront. To be honest that's
how it should be and it's nice to know that someone has thought
of this.
OK so the bottom line is that if you're after loads of mid-bass
and thump then possibly you should look elsewhere as that
isn't what these are about. However until the ultimate top-of-the-range
genesis components are released later this year these are
the best Genesis speakers you can buy. At £229 they
are VERY well priced and if you want pure sound quality then
I highly recommend these.
